Document Recording

The Salem County Clerk’s Office records or files more than 150 different types of documents, most of which are related to real property transactions in the county.

Always consult a licensed New Jersey attorney whenever you are contemplating the recording of a document which affects real property ownership. The Salem County Clerk’s Office cannot provide legal advice or prepare legal documents.

This requirement went into effect, May 1, 2017.

In compliance with P.L. 2011, c. 217 (NJSA 46:26A-5) a cover sheet or an electronic synopsis will be required with all land documents submitted for recording. This requirement becomes effective on May 1, 2017.

For customers who record documents in hard copy format via U.S. Mail, express, courier or over the counter – a cover sheet is required. This may be downloaded on our FEES page at this link.

Please make sure that your documents are submitted with a cover sheet otherwise you may incur additional fees or have your packet rejected.

As a recording agency, the Salem County Clerk’s Office accepts documents/instruments already prepared, meeting the legal requirements for recording, filing and cancellation.

This department records land ownership, mortgage and lien related documents. Business Trade ComputersName Certificates and secured transactions are filed. Satisfied mortgages are canceled or discharged as well as other liens and tax sale certificates.

Our Record Room is located in the County Clerk’s Office  at 110 Fifth Street  Suite #200; Salem, NJ 08079.

Deeds, mortgages, liens and other land records are available for public inspection. By law, our staff cannot conduct a title search, but will assist the public on the use of our computers.

  • Post 1951 – Mannington Municipal Clerk
